Simple Minds play The Roundhouse

The iTunes Festival London event kicks off again in July 2009 with over 60 great artists playing live at the Roundhouse in Camden. With the likes of Oasis starring alongside Snow Patrol, Flo Rida and The Saturdays, the iTunes Festival London shows are set to be even bigger and more impressive than last year.

Simple Minds and Vagabond
Having celebrated their thirtieth anniversary last year, Jim Kerr and co return, doubtless mixing up magnificently shimmering, synth-pop tunes from the likes of 'Sons & Fascination' (1981) and1982's 'New Gold Dream' with those from their rather more pompous latter days, with de rigeur thundering sin drums and padded-shoulder suits. Support from Vagabond.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen UK Premiere

We were fortunate to crack the nod for the UK Premiere of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

"It is with great pleasure Paramount Pictures invite you to the UK Premiere of Transformers Revenge of the Fallen.

In aid of Starlight in association with Sky Movies HD on 15th June 2009 at the Odeon Leicester Square, London.

In the highly-anticipated Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) again joins with the Autobots against their sworn enemies, the Decepticons. Michael Bay directs from a screenplay by Ehren Kruger & Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman.

In attendance will be director Michael Bay plus the stars Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Tyrese Gibson and Josh Duhamel. This epic event will take place on the evening of Monday 15Th June in London's Leicester Square."

Being a little over the expected age limit for Transformers and not being a fan at all. I was completely blown away by the first Transformers film (incidentally this was Michael Bay's finest film to date). 3 Other Blockbuster releases this year were really good i.e. Terminator Salvation, Star Trek & Watchmen. So I was really quite keen to see the TROTF. Plus the Leicester Square Odeon has the best cinematic sound in the UK combined with the special effects this was going to be a pretty good evening.

The evening was a spectacular star studded event. With appearances by; Shia LaBouef, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Jasmine Guiness, Danielle Lloyd, Tyrese Gibson, John Turterro,VV Brown,Michael Bay,Matthew Marsden, Ramon Rodriguez, Sam Branson, Bianca Gascoigne, Kate Walsh, Aston Merrygold, Ortise Williams, JLS, Sarah Cawood, Danny O'Donoghue, Ozwald Boateng, Dizzee Rascal, Beverley Knight, Tiny Iron, Jamie O Hara, Lemar, Phillip Taylor and Bumblebee

In the video you can see the backs of Shia LaBeouf, Tyrese Gibson and if you place your eyes as close to your computer screen as possible and squint Megan Fox at the far end of the Blue Carpet.

I really wanted to enjoy the film. But ultimately it is aimed at a younger audience and more in line with the Transformers toys target market. For many of the wrong reasons I did feel like I had just watched a George Lucas film.

But it is big, loud, has lots of big robots fighting loudly and is quite the big screen spectacle. It is really a great Saturday matinee kids popcorn flick. The special effects will not disappoint.

The Last Airbender Trailer

Water. Earth. Fire. Air. In the old days, there was peace between the four nations of the world. The Avatar -- Master of all four elements -- kept peace between the the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads. Only the Avatar has the ability to Bend (manipulate) all four elements, but one day, he Vanished. Then the Fire Nation attacked, forcing a war on the other three nations for one hundred years. Now, for the good of the world, it's up to 12-year-old Aang (Noah Ringer), the new Avatar, and the last of the Air Nomads (Airbenders), to return peace and balance by putting an end to the war and mastering all four elements. Aang must accept his destiny by stopping the Fire Nation's war and defeating the Fire Lord for good.

5 Gum Sense5 Launch party, London

Earlier this Month we were invited to the 5 Gum "Creating Sense5" launch party held in London. 5 Gum is new flavourful gum from Wrigleys. The general consensus is that 5 Gum really is a taste explosion in a chewing gum kind of way.

The launch was conducted by Vice Magazine who ran a a competition in the lead up to the event. They sent out an open call to creatives to create something that like the gum intrigues and exhilarates the senses. And when I say something, the entries could have been anything one felt would represent the gum. Award winning band Hot Chip would then select the winning talent and curate the gig. From The Vice website:

"Thursday, June 4th certainly turned out to be an unforgettable night at The Arches, London Bridge. Hot Chip's two live DJ sets - one featuring Kano - were supported by unique performances from The Penny Serenade, Raf Daddy, Planning To Rock and Noze.

Five winners of the CreatingSense5 competition, whose entries, like the 5 gum, represented and stimulated the senses. Their interactive installations including the "touch wall" and "edible forest" proved to be a huge success - with people finding more than one different use for them!"

Stand out moments for me were discovering Portuguese Sangeres beer (a almost honey tinged malty beer), hearing Planning To Rock for the first time, Hot Chip's awesome live set as well as hearing the sublime combination of Hot Chip & Kano together. Pics & videos to follow in the meantime you can see more pics from the event here!

Hamlet

The King of Denmark is dead.

Consumed with grief, Prince Hamlet determines to avenge his father’s apparent murder, with devastating consequences for his family and the kingdom.

Kenneth Branagh directs Jude Law as Hamlet in Shakespeare’s iconic revenge tragedy.

Jude Law is to tackle the most challenging stage role for a young male actor: Hamlet.

Law will pit himself against some of the great interpreters of the part, including Daniel Day-Lewis and David Warner, under the direction of Kenneth Branagh in a production by the Donmar Warehouse.

The production will not be staged at the pocket-size Donmar, which has a capacity of 250. Instead, Hamlet will be part of a season of plays that the Donmar will present at the much larger Wyndham's Theatre, a few streets away in London's West End.
