Paul King + Bunny & The Bull Preview Screening

@sizemore (Mike Sizemore of Slingers fame) has been asked to get a few people together for a FREE screening of BUNNY AND THE BULL this Friday (6th November) around 6.30 in central London. Venue to be confirmed.

All you really need to know is that it’s from the director of THE MIGHTY BOOSH. I haven’t seen it yet myself, but people tell me it’s a lot of fun.

An extraordinary visual feast from the director of THE MIGHTY BOOSH, featuring the crème-de-la- crème of British comedy talent, including Noel Fielding, Julian Barrett and Richard Ayoade, BUNNY AND THE BULL follows Stephen (Ed Hogg), a heartbroken recluse who finds his mind hurtling back to a disastrous treck around Europe he took with his best friend, Bunny (Simon Farnaby), a dissolute gambling addict, as they embark on an extraordinary odyssey where his imagination is the only limit.

Journeying from the industrial wastelands of Silesia to the ball fields of Andalusia, their adventures bring them into contact with Hungarian dog enthusiast (Julian Barratt), a moustachioed matador (Noel Fielding) and a hot-tempered crab waitress (Veronica Echegui) who soon tests how far their friendship really goes.

He has 25 or so seats to fill so drop him an email: mikesizemore@gmail.com

First come first served I’m afraid, but please only get in touch if you’re sure you can make it.

The director, Paul King, will be coming along on Friday to introduce the movie!

Spike Jonze said the 14-minute phantasmagoria was meant to illustrate the themes of loss and isolation on “808s & Heartbreak,” which Mr. West composed after his mother, Donda, died and he broke off his engagement to his then-fiancée, Alexis Phifer.

Friday Film Location: Flashbacks of a Fool - Cape Town, South Africa

Takes me right back when you were young....

Flashbacks of a Fool
Stars: Daniel Craig, Emile Robert, Olivia Williams, Mark Strong, Claire Forlani

Daniel Craig stars as Joe, a hedonistic British actor whose Hollywood career is starting to nosedive. The death of his best friend from his English childhood causes him to journey back home for the funeral, and prompts flashbacks to his teenage experiences - including the tragedy that forced him to flee to the United States and a new life.

As well as playing the lead role, Daniel Craig is the executive producer of this film. It has been a pet project for a while. With the success of his new Bond fame the money came into place.

The part of the bitter and twisted film star was written with Craig in mind by his friend, Baillie Walsh, before the Bond star got famous.

"When he wrote the part for me about five or six years ago, I certainly didn't have the success I did now," says Craig, keen to stress that the tale of a successful but arrogant film star is not about him.

The film was mainly shot in Cape Town, South Africa and Malibu, California.

For the scene where Joe meets his agent and director of his potential next role. He meets the two at an upmarket restaurant overlooking the sea. Both the interior and exterior scenes were filmed at Salt Restaurant at The Ambassador Hotel in Bantry Bay, Cape Town, South Africa.

The Times BFI 53rd London Film Festival: Sam Taylor Wood Talk

The highly acclaimed artist and filmmaker comes to the BFI to discuss her career transition from gallery to cinema with Tim Marlow.

Whilst creating her first major artwork Killing Time in 1994, and the subsequent 1996 multi-screen works Travesty of a Mockery and Pent-Up, Sam Taylor-Wood gained valuable experience working with actors, and she has applied a cinematic sensibility to her still photographic work as well as her films ever since. Her diagnosis and recovery from both colon cancer in 1997 and breast cancer in 2001, influenced her already melancholic work, exploring and reflecting on the theme of mortality in such works as Still Life (2001) and A Little Death (2002) while experimenting with the distortion of time and motion. Pieces from 2005-2006; David, Prelude in Air and The Last Century, focus on moments of vulnerability and intimacy and remind us of elements now lost from our culture. Taylor-Wood's impressive short narrative film Love You More (LFF 2008) has much in common with her artwork, in as much that it is a simple idea, beautifully executed, and as with all of her work, it is the visual expression of the idea that is so original. We are proud to present the World Premiere of Sam's first feature Nowhere Boy as our Closing Night film, and very excited that she will be in conversation to discuss her work. Timothy Smith

Please note that Clive Barker will only sign copies of 'Midnight Meat Train' and one other item per customer on the day. Due to time constraints, limits may change and Forbidden Planet cannot guarantee that every customer will be seen.

Stephen King writing competition

Take your inspiration from Stephen King’s new novel and send in your creative writing on the theme of UNDER THE DOME. Hodder & Stoughton aew offering participants the opportunity to have their work read by one of the world’s favourite storytellers, and to receive a signed copy of UNDER THE DOME. If you’re an aspiring author or poet, a Stephen King fan, or just inspired by the theme, then this competition is for you. Submit your original piece, of no more than 2,000 words, below before 15th December 2009. The winner will be announced on 20th January 2010. Use the extracts as inspiration or submit whatever UNDER THE DOME conjures up in your imagination.

Stephen King and his UK editor will choose a winner based on the readability of their entry and the quality of their writing.

Celebrated storyteller Stephen King returns to his roots in this tour de force featuring more than 100 characters – some heroic, some diabolical – and a supernatural element as baffling and chilling as any he's ever conjured.

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mills, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as “the Dome” comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when – or if – it will go away.

With some of the most spectacularly sinister characters King has ever imagined and a driving plot, UNDER THE DOME is Stephen King at his epic best. This book will thrill every reader who's ever loved a novel by King.

We Live In Public Advance Screening

A documentary focusing on the life of dot-com entrepreneur Josh Harris, and his exploits over the last decade.

Ten years in the making and culled from 5000 hours of footage, WE LIVE IN PUBLIC reveals the effect the web is having on our society, as seen through the eyes of “the greatest Internet pioneer you’ve never heard of”, artist, futurist and visionary Josh Harris. Award-winning director Ondi Timoner (DIG! -- which also won the Sundance Grand Jury Prize in 2004 -- making Timoner the only director to win that prestigious award twice) documented his tumultuous life for more than a decade to create a riveting, cautionary tale of what to expect as the virtual world inevitably takes control of our lives.

Harris, often called the “Warhol of the Web”, founded Pseudo.com, the first Internet television network during the infamous dot-com boom of the 1990s. He also curated and funded the ground breaking project “Quiet” in an underground bunker in NYC where over 100 people lived together on camera for 30 days at the turn of the millennium. With Quiet, Harris proved how we willingly trade our privacy for the connection and recognition we all deeply desire, but with every technological advancement such as MySpace, Facebook and Twitter, becomes more elusive. Through his experiments, including a six-month stint living with his girlfriend under 24-hour electronic surveillance which led to his mental collapse, Harris demonstrated the price we pay for living in public.

Pinewood Studios to host Water on the Lens exhibition

Entitled ‘Water on the Lens’, the exhibition comprises images of underwater shoots for film, TV, commercials and pop videos, celebrating the heart of Britain’s creativity with breathtaking art. Keira Knightley, Jared Leto, Sharon Stone, Matt Lucas and James Blunt are amongst those captured performing underwater, alongside sets from Casino Royale, Da Vinci Code, Eastenders, Elizabeth: The Golden Age and Dr. Who

‘Water on the Lens’ will be sponsored by Hunter Boot, the quintessentially British brand renowned for wellington boots. Peter Taylor, MD for Hunter Boot comments “Hunter Boot are delighted to be the official sponsor of such a unique and beautiful exhibition. There is an obvious association for Hunter with such a strong water related theme and this exhibition showcases the creativity and skill involved in producing these breathtaking underwater images.”

This capsule collection provides a rare, behind-the-scenes view into one of the world’s most prestigious film and television studios and its Underwater Stage (U Stage) - a globally unique water-filming facility. The scene of a thousand iconic images, U Stage opened in 2005 after 5 years in concept and design by Dave Shaw of Diving Services UK, who manage the facility on Pinewood’s behalf. It houses a permanently filled water tank sized 20m x 10m x 6m deep, holding 1.2 million litres of water.

These inspiring pictures have been captured by Phoebe Rudomino, commercial diver and underwater photographer of Diving Services UK. "U Stage provides such a secure and comfortable water filming environment that we're able to produce almost any type of underwater production shoot” says Phoebe. “From working with horses and fire to the world’s top actors and models, the scenes are truly fascinating to capture."

‘Water on the Lens’ will form part of The Movieum of London in the Riverside Rooms, County Hall, Southbank, London SE1 from 1-28 October 2009.
