Seven Samurai: Masterclass with Mamoun Hassan

Explore Seven Samurai, Kurosawa’s most famous, enduring and internationally acclaimed film in a collaborative workshop with Mamoun Hassan, former Head of BFI Production.

Hassan, who will lead a scene-by-scene exploration of what we see and hear and facilitate discussion about the wider significance of what occurs on screen, was responsible for devising and producing the acclaimed C4 series Movie Masterclass and his particular approach to the work of the director has been widely praised by audiences for its ability to alter the way in which they experience cinema. This participatory seminar will require prior viewing of Seven Samurai and tickets are available as stand-alone or in conjunction with any screening of the film, playing as part of the season devoted to Kurosawa and His Influence.

The 7 min short below was made by director Kevin Tancharoen as a way to sell his vision to Warner Bros for their expected Mortal Kombat rebirth to be released in 2013.

It features characters from the Mortal Kombat universe with decent production values. It's rumoured that the film is in production hell whilst legal issues are sorted out. Albeit a big nod to The Watchmen - if this is the quality that is to be expected count me in for the Kumite.

It stars Ian Anthony Dale as Scorpion, Michael Jai-White as Jax (Jackson Briggs) and Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade

Resident Evil: Afterlife first pics now online

Resident Evil: Afterlife picks up where the third film left off. Since the events of Resident Evil: Extinction, Alice has been roaming the world searching for any remaining survivors. Making her way through a ruined Los Angeles, she teams up with a group of survivors who had been trapped in a prison complex.

If you have been following Milla Jovovich (pronounced mee-luh yo-vo-vitch) @millajovovich on Twitter like I have, you know doubt are in the loop regarding the tasty bits she has tweeted like it can be expected that there are going to be Alice clones thrown into the action. I am more a fan of Ms. Jovovich than a fan of the Resident Evil series and even struggle to muster up enough enthusiasm to make it past the first level of Resident Evil 5 on PS3 after a year. However as Resident Evil: Afterlife is in 3D (a little known fact judging by what I have been reading online) and the best kind of 3D films are cheesy, arrow and blown up bits coming out of the screen zombie fests I'm kind of excited about it. "The Last Airbender" has just got a new trailer from Paramount. the film is building momentum now and as with all M. Night Shyamalan's films is eagerly anticipated.

Air, Water, Earth, Fire. Four nations tied by destiny when the Fire Nation launches a brutal war against the others. A century has passed with no hope in sight to change the path of this destruction. Caught between combat and courage, Aang (Noah Ringer) discovers he is the lone Avatar with the power to manipulate all four elements. Aang teams with Katara (Nicola Peltz), a Waterbender, and her brother, Sokka (Jackson Rathbone), to restore balance to their war-torn world.

Based on the hugely successful Nickelodeon animated TV series, the live-action feature film The Last Airbender is the opening chapter in Aang's struggle to survive.
