What might Captain America and Bucky look like?

Now that Marvel have cast Chris Evans as The First Avenger: Captain America and his sidekick Bucky will be played by Sebastian Stan. We wonder what the two might look like?

Some things to consider: Will The First Avenger: Captain America be taking place in 2 time periods? We are guessing that 2 suits will be involved a Golden Age style suit from the origan part of the tale which will then be updated to contemporary times.

Also could Bucky's Winter Soldier persona play a role in the film? Either way below we have covered some scenarios:

More astounding fan art. By now you have seen the Hexagonall Tron titles if they were done by Saul Bass clip. Today we got an email letting us know that Hexagonall had created 8 posters to support the Saul Bass Tron titles clip. Awesome stuff.

Saul Bass was an American graphic designer and Academy Award-winning filmmaker, but he is best known for his design on animated motion picture title sequences.

During his 40-year career he worked for some of Hollywood's greatest filmmakers, including most notably Alfred Hitchcock, Otto Preminger, Stanley Kubrick and Martin Scorsese. Amongst his most famous title sequences are the animated paper cut-out of a heroin addict's arm for Preminger's The Man with the Golden Arm, the text racing up and down what eventually becomes a high-angle shot of the United Nations building in Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest, and the disjointed text that raced together and was pulled apart for Psycho (1960).

Yes! It's finally here! To describe Peter Greenway as a modern master of cinema is an understatment. After a 3 year wait his latest masterpiece is unveiled - "Nightwatching".

Greenway's style is the antisthesis of MTV style over substance filmmaking. He paints a lush and detailed canvas, each scene a visual delight. Greenaway is in full flow here and Nightwatching takes its place among his most visually captivating and intellectually provocative films.

Martin Freeman stars as Rembrandt in Peter Greenaway's lush tale about the painter's great work, The Night Watch. Greenaway creates a drama that is an examination of the form and fabric of the painting, the intrigue behind its subject and the character of Rembrandt himself.

The year 1642 marks the turning point in the life of the famous Dutch painter, Rembrandt, turning him from a wealthy respected celebrity into a discredited pauper. At the insistence of his pregnant wife Saskia, Rembrandt has reluctantly agreed to paint the Amsterdam Musketeer Militia in a group portrait that will later become to be known as The Nightwatch. He soon discovers that there is a conspiracy afoot with the Amsterdam merchants playing at soldiers maneuvering for financial advantage and personal power in, that time, the richest city in the Western World. Rembrandt stumbles on a foul murder. Confident in the birth of a longed-for son and heir, Rembrandt is determined to expose the conspiring murderers and builds his accusation meticulously in the form of the commissioned painting, uncovering the seamy and hypocritical side to Dutch Society in the Golden Age.

Rembrandt's great good fortune turns. Saskia dies. Rembrandt reveals the accusation of murder in the painting and the conspirators plan revenge. They set out to discredit him at home and abroad. They plant a treacherous mistress, Geertje, to seduce him. They try to blind him. They plan his social and financial ruin, and to create the circumstances for his slide into penury, insult his young mistress Hendrickje, conspire to destroy his son, and bring Rembrandt to his knees. The bold and courageous painting of the Nightwatch, exceptional in aesthetics and content, is Rembrandt's most celebrated painting, it consolidated his reputation as a master-painter but it also destroyed him socially and financially.

Banksy's being auctioned by Sothebys

The Sotheby's Contemporary Art Day Auction is being held in London this February.

The February day sale of Contemporary art features a carefully-curated range of exciting works by the leading names in the Contemporary art world. With cutting-edge paintings and sculptures by prominent international young artists, as well as classic pieces by established post-war European and American masters, the sale brings together exciting art works from the past seventy years, illuminating the movements they helped to define.

Highlights of the post-war period include Dubuffet’s magnificent Cafetière, tasse et sucrier III; an extremely rare IKP sponge sculpture from 1958 by Yves Klein; and a sublimely poised stabile by Alexander Calder. Important paintings by Peter Doig, Gerhard Richter and Damien Hirst headline a select group of Contemporary artists, whose work will be offered alongside pieces from the Estate of Angus Fairhurst.

The exhibition in London opens on the 6 February 2010.

The Times BFI 53rd London Film Festival: Sam Taylor Wood Talk

The highly acclaimed artist and filmmaker comes to the BFI to discuss her career transition from gallery to cinema with Tim Marlow.



Whilst creating her first major artwork Killing Time in 1994, and the subsequent 1996 multi-screen works Travesty of a Mockery and Pent-Up, Sam Taylor-Wood gained valuable experience working with actors, and she has applied a cinematic sensibility to her still photographic work as well as her films ever since. Her diagnosis and recovery from both colon cancer in 1997 and breast cancer in 2001, influenced her already melancholic work, exploring and reflecting on the theme of mortality in such works as Still Life (2001) and A Little Death (2002) while experimenting with the distortion of time and motion. Pieces from 2005-2006; David, Prelude in Air and The Last Century, focus on moments of vulnerability and intimacy and remind us of elements now lost from our culture. Taylor-Wood's impressive short narrative film Love You More (LFF 2008) has much in common with her artwork, in as much that it is a simple idea, beautifully executed, and as with all of her work, it is the visual expression of the idea that is so original. We are proud to present the World Premiere of Sam's first feature Nowhere Boy as our Closing Night film, and very excited that she will be in conversation to discuss her work. Timothy Smith

Exhibition Bridget Bardot and the Original Paparazzi.

Coinciding with the 75th Birthday of Brigitte Bardot on 28th September 2009, James Hyman Gallery presents an exhibition of 75 vintage photographs by some of the most famous paparazzi photographers.

Presented at the same time as London Fashion Week (18-22 September) Brigitte Bardot and the Original Paparazzi focuses on one of the greatest fashion icons of the twentieth century.

Brigitte Bardot . In her day she was quite something, as this exhibition of vintage photos shows. She had a very different relationship to the paparazzi than today; no peeping nips here, she oozed coquettish sophistication.

The word paparazzo in fact is derived from a character in Fellini’s La Dolce Vita, and in this context it’s redolent of a time when the paps mixed with the likes of Sinatra and Bardot on the Côte d’Azur. Come see some marvellous photos of Brigitte in her prime and also some amazing candid shots from films such as Le Mépris – one of the top ten movies ever – in which cinematic glamour went hand in hand with art-house cool. Runs until 3 October.

Own a piece of film history - Authentic Blade Runner memorabilia

The Prop Store of London (http://www.propstore.com/), one of the world's leading vendors of movie props and costumes as memorabilia). Has 2 awesome items of cinematic history for sale.






Two pieces of the futuristic skyline used in the Ridley Scott masterpiece Blade Runner. This highly detailed brass section was used along with other similar pieces of varying sizes on a table top set to form a forced perspective miniature for the opening scene of the movie. Each panel was laid out to give a multi layered effect and had a fibre optic light glued to the back. They were saved after filming by Mark Stetson's crew and have been in storage ever since. The section has been custom framed with laser cut mount board featuring the film’s title and stills from the movie. The display also has three LED's built in which help silhouette the "building" perfectly. The lights are activated by a small concealed switch on the inside of the frame. The overall display measures 49.5cm x 43cm (19.5" x 17"). The skyline image along with Vangelis' haunting music is perhaps the most memorable scene in the movie and one of the great movie openings of all time.

She Farted And Created The World

Every year Virgin Media and it's partners run a Short film competition called the Virgin Media Shorts. While browsing the Virgin Media Shorts shortlist of 12 possible winners. I came across this exceptional animated film called "She Farted And Created The World". Odd name! Marvellous film.

It warms my heart when I see inventive film-making from young talent like this. Some of the other clips short listed are brilliant but the amount of time, effort and vision encapsulated in the 2:10 minute clip surely warrants it a mention of note. Anyone who has ever thought about making a film is aware of the logistics and pitfalls of such an endeavour but Director Scott Coello makes it looks easy and creates a visually compelling experience with depth at the same time. Matt encourages us to spend time with people who we may chose to overlook in our daily lives and in doing so forces us to challenge our prejudices and recognize our shared humanity

As well as a number of new editions being released many of the artists have produced either very small editions of hand coloured prints or unique works.

The show opens from 4pm with live printing demonstrations taking place from 4.30. For anyone interested in printmaking this show provides an excellent opportunity to gain an insight into how Black Rat editions are created.
