Blade Runner LED Umbrella

Ever since seeing the neon lite streets of Los Angeles circa 2019 via Blade Runner. I've wanted one of these bad boys. My need for one of these was increased when reading Bladezone.com (a Blade Runner fan site) and finding out that at the launch of the Blade Runner Final Cut 25th Anniversary Edition After Party. Guests were given a gift pack that included a Blade Runner branded LED umbrella.

Now via the miracle of the "future" and the Internet we can all own buy one for £17 ($24.99) from ThinkGeek.com . The umbrellas come Jedi Blue and Sith Red.

Early in the 21st Century, the Tyrell Corporation advanced robot evolution into the Nexus phase - a being virtually identical to a human - known as a Replicant. They're all around you, even now. That guy next to you? He's a Replicant. How do we know? He's walking the streets in the rain with no umbrella. That, and he failed the Voight-Kampff.

In the pre-apocalyptic future, the air will be so thick, it will be dark in the middle of the day. Coupled with the almost constant rain, you'll need to find a way to stay dry, and light your way to the noodle shop down the street.

Even if you don't live in a quasi-futuristic Los Angeles, and aren't a Blade Runner, you can still have the coolest umbrella on the street. With a push of a button, the shaft lights up, illuminating you and your path. Now, even in the darkest of nights, you're a lot more visible to the cars on the street, making your long walk home through the rain a lot safer.

A Single Man Preview + QA with Tom Ford

Curzon Cinemas are proud to announce that director Tom Ford will be joining them for a Q&A after the screening of A Single Man.

Fashion guru Tom Ford’s debut feature is a sumptuous mix of 'Mad Men' and 'Far From Heaven'. Set in wealthy 1960s California, the film focuses on George (Firth), a gay college professor who learns that his lover Jim (Goode, 'Brideshead Revisited') has died in a car wreck. Grief overwhelms him and suicide seems the best way out, until a mad night with his lovelorn friend Charley (Moore), and the unexpected attentions of an angora-sweater-clad young man (Nicholas Hoult, 'About A Boy') makes George think twice. Firth deservedly won the Best Actor prize at Venice, and Ford proves that he is a filmmaker of genuine distinction.

Even by our previous standards the line-up this year - our 12th - was preposterously glitzy. We celebrated the cream of the crop from the world of entertainment, politics, literature, film and music.

A Film by Sally Potter With Interactive Q&A Live via Satellite

Defying the usual conventions of film, RAGE is the new cinematic creation from writer-director Sally Potter. Using a radical narrative structure focused entirely on individual performances, RAGE consists of a dynamic series of interviews, as if shot by a schoolboy on his mobile phone. He goes behind the scenes at a New York fashion show during a week in which an accident on the catwalk turns into a murder investigation.

Fourteen actors, both celebrated stars and emerging talents, play characters who each have a role in the show, from the designer (Simon Abkarian) and his models (Lily Cole and Jude Law), the fashion critic (Judi Dench) and photographer (Steve Buscemi), to the fashion-house financier (Eddie Izzard) and his bodyguard (John Leguizamo).

The radical style of RAGE is embraced in its unique distribution strategy, with the film premiering on mobile and internet alongside its digital screen and DVD release.

The premiere event will be broadcast live by satellite from London's BFI Southbank to dozens of cinemas across the UK. You can be part of the satellite broadcast of the Q&A after the film, sending your questions by Skype video and SMS direct from your local cinema live to Sally Potter and members of the RAGE cast, including Jude Law, Eddie Izzard and Lily Cole

Sir Roger Moore in Conversation

To close the BFI's tribute season to Cubby Broccoli, they are delighted to welcome to the BFI Southbank stage the man who, in taking on the role no less than seven times, helped establish James Bond as the archetypal British hero – Sir Roger Moore. First coming to prominence as Simon Templar in the hugely successful spy-thriller TV series The Saint, he claimed his most famous role as 007 with 1973's Live and Let Die. Bringing a more relaxed and suave tone to Bond Sir Roger was instrumental in extending the life of the charming but deadly secret agent. Now an ambassador for UNICEF and highly commended for his charitable work, he will discuss the exhilarating world of 007, his memories of Broccoli and his career so far.
