In a windswept Antarctic research facility, a group of American scientists are terrorised by a shape-shifting extra-terrestrial.

After a helicopter from a neighbouring Norwegian camp is destroyed pursuing a dog and the crazed pilot shot, MacReady (Kurt Russell) and a small team set off to investigate. A grisly discovery awaits them: the camp is populated by mutilated corpses and there's evidence of a long-frozen UFO. Back at the base the stray dog wreaks havoc, undergoing a grotesque transformation and killing the other hounds before being burnt to death. An autopsy on one of the bodies from the Norwegian camp reveals that a chameleon-like alien that can take the form of whatever it kills is at large - and any one of the team could be its host. In an astonishing finale, bodies are ripped apart and limbs are lopped off as paranoia breeds hysteria and the crew are picked off one by one...

Creature from the Black Lagoon

Jack Arnold's horror classic The Creature from the Black Lagoon spawned not one but two iconic images: the web-footed humanoid gill-man with a hankering for women and the leggy, luscious Julia Adams, the object of his desire, swimming the lagoon in a luminous white bathing suit. Not since King Kong has the "beauty and the beast" theme been portrayed in such sexually charged (though chaste) terms. Arnold turns an effectively B-movie plot--a small expedition up a remote Amazon river captures a prehistoric amphibian man, who escapes to wreak havoc on the team and kidnap his bathing beauty--into a moody, stylish, low-budget feature.

Double Bill: Preview screening of Sukiyaki Western Django & Django at Curzon Soho

The Curzon Soho is offering a double helping of Western madness.

First off, an exclusive preview of Takashi Miike’s (Audition, Visitor Q) Sukiyaki Western Django, followed by the cult classic that inspired it: Sergio Corbucci’s Django.

Proceedings will kick off with a Cowboy party in the bar from 9.30pm, before the films begin at 11.30pm!

As two gangs battle for control of a remote town, a deadly gunman comes to the aid of the residents. Making his Japanese cast speak English and with a cameo from Quentin Tarantino, this is one of Miike’s most bizarre films yet.

Please note this screening will not be subtitled!

Django
Legendary cult film about a coffin-dragging gunslinger who enters a town caught between the KKK and a gang of Mexican Bandits. Inspiration for the ear-cutting scene in Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs, Django is a full-on, over-the-top Western epic.
