Martin Scorsese, Thelma Schoonmaker and Columba Powell discuss Peeping Tom

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Michael Powell's Peeping Tom, Curzon Cinemas have announced a very special screening of the film followed by acclaimed filmmakers Martin Scorsese and Thelma Schoonmaker and Powell’s son Columba Powell in conversation.

Peeping Tom was, upon its release, one of the most controversial films ever made in Britain. Powell’s career never recovered from the scandal, but twenty years later, Peeping Tom was hailed as a misunderstood masterpiece – thanks to the efforts of filmmakers such as Martin Scorsese, who helped finance a wider US re-release.

The event will be hosted by Francine Stock. Francine Stock is the presenter of BBC Radio 4’s The Film Programme. Formely presenter of Newsnight and Front Row, Francine was also nominated for the Whitbread First Novel award for her debut book, A Foreign Country.

Peeping Tom - By day, Mark Lewis works as a modest focus-puller in a film studio. But he also shoots glamour photographs for a seedy Soho newsagent, and by night he seeks victims for his most gruesome obsession – filming the face of mortal fear, moments before death. James Bond - All that Glitters is Goldfinger: In Conversation with Guy Hamilton - Film Talk Tuesdays

Early this year. Film4 held their Film4 Summer Screen 2010 Festival at Somerset House. As you by now no doubt know the Film4 Summer Screen Festival features eleven nights of movies on the giant open air screen at Somerset House with an accompanying season of insider talks, discussions and special events in Behind the Screen in collaboration with Film4 and BAFTA.

One of the highlights of the Behind the Screen sessions was BAFTA celebrating the works of long time James Bond director Guy Hamilton. The discussion was hosted by master Bond composer David Arnold (@davidgarnold), was focussed on Guy Hamilton's Bond directorial debut Goldfinger and included the Goldfinger's golden girl the lovely Ms. Shirley Eaton (http://www.shirleyeaton.net/).

QA Mike Leigh & Another Year screening

Although it narrowly missed out on the Palme d’Or at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, Mike Leigh’s ANOTHER YEAR is undoubtedly one of his finest films. A journalist returns to her sleepy, postcard-pretty hometown in Dorset, kick-starting a rural rollercoaster of broken hearts and emotional highs in this light-hearted countryside comedy, adapted from Posy Simmonds’ graphic novel. UNKLE On Screen & QA James Lavelle & Alex Grazioli

As part of the 'Daydreaming with... James Lavelle' exhibition which takes place at Haunch of Venison over the August Bank Holiday weekend, the festival concludes with a special evening with James Lavelle at the Prince Charles cinema in Leicester Square - UNKLE On Screen, in association with shots.

The event will feature the screening of a selection of UNKLE music videos , including John Hillcoat –directed video for new single ‘The Answer’, and commercials scored by the band, as well as the feature film ‘Odyssey in Rome’, directed by Alex Grazioli and scored by UNKLE. Film4 FrightFest 2010

If you are still unfamiliar with FILM4 FRIGHTFEST it's time to come out from under that rock and embrace the UK's premiere fantasy and horror film festival.

Now in its eleventh year, each August thousands of genre fans gather together in the heart of London's West End at the prodigious Empire Cinema for five packed days of premieres, previews, personal appearances, signings and surprises.

FrightFest first hit the scene in August 2000 and right from the start the festival set out its stall with the World Premiere of Ed Gein and UK premieres of Scary Movie, Pitch Black and Audition. Then based at the world famous London grindhouse cinema The Prince Charles, the annual 4-day festival has grown to become, in the words of Time Out, “the premiere event of the year for horror fans”, in the process helping to launch the careers of directors Christopher Smith (Creep, Severance) and Simon Hunter (Mutant Chronicles) plus hosting many first UK screenings including Shaun of the Dead and Eli Roth’s Hostel.

We have been fortunate enought to attend events at Frightfest in previous years and will be going along this year which looks to be the biggest and best yet.

QA Director Marc Caro & The City of Lost Children

Intricate producton design (by Caro and Jean Rabasse), a battery of special effects, Jean-Paul Gaultier costumes and a richly atmospheric score by Angelo Badalamenti all combine to create a dazzlingly surreal, post-apocalyptic world that frames the hunt for a kidnapped boy after a circus strongman's little brother goes missing. Edgar Wright in Conversation with Joe Cornish

When it was announced that Edgar Wright would be writing and directing Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World, a collective sigh of relief could be heard throughout the land.

For fans of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s comic book about a Toronto bassist-scenester who must defeat his girlfriend’s seven “evil exes”, there was no better choice than Wright, the man who gave Spaced its idiosyncratic visual style, the zombie brilliance of Shaun of the Dead, and the high-octane send-up Hot Fuzz. Special guest Joe Cornish (of Adam & Joe fame and taking a break from his own foray into film, Attack the Block) will host what is certain to be an extremely entertaining evening, taking a look at Edgar’s work, old and new.

QA Chris Morri & screening of Four Lions

Chris Morris (the master satirist behind The Day Today and Brass Eye) turns his piercing critique to the subject of terrorism with Four Lions, the story of a group of British jihadists who push their abstract dreams of glory to the breaking point. In a storm of razor-sharp, verbal jousting and large-scale set pieces, Four Lions is a comic tour de force. I'll start by saying - as yet, I haven't enjoyed a "I'm a spy my wife/husband doesn't know" rom com; True Lies, Mr & Mr Smith, etc. Also I'm probably not the target audience for Killers. So my expectations were pretty low - but I love film, so off I went.

I thought Ashton Kutcher was pretty good in Killers, he continues to build on the credibility garnered with Spread and I hope to see him in a full on action film soon. Killers is an amiable and light film, a pastiche of 50s rom coms & spy films mixed with Mission Impossible 3 and Mr & Mrs Smith with a small nod to Die Hard.

The Premiere audience were laughing the whole way through and there was a good buzz. Cast were all good, particularly the hilarious Rob Riggle. Keep an eye out for the hillarious facial hair gag it had me in stitches. However I thought the ending really let it down though, a different ending may have lifted it to a really good film status.

Black Death Review & Premiere

I love seeing films in advance of the general public as limited exposure to marketing hype and word of mouth allows me to experience the film first hand and with no expectations. Such was the case with Black Death.

Plague-ridden medieval England: Bodies lie scattered in their hundreds, the country is in turmoil. One hope remains, rumours of a village that is unaffected by the deadly disease. As Gods ambassador, young monk Osmund (Eddie Redmayne) is tasked in leading the fearsome knight Ulrich (Sean Bean) and his group of mercenaries to the remote village. Their quest is to hunt down a necromancer - someone able to bring the dead back to life.

Their journey is treacherous and filled with danger; encountering deadly bandits and vicious witch-burnings that will put their faith to the ultimate test. Though its upon entering the village that their true horror begins...

From Christopher Smith, director of cult hits Creep, Severance and Triangle, comes a brutal and terrifying epic that guarantees to chill the blood and stir the soul.

Black Death is the film you wanted to see when you first heard about Inglourious Basterds (before Tarantino wryly pulled the carpet out from under us) - with the exception that it is set in the much darker and dangerous bubonic Plague ridden Middle Ages. This men on an intense mission doesn't let you forget the complex fundamental religious issues at its core whilst by no means being a "message movie".

Much bigger and broader than Creep and Triangle live wire Christopher Smith's direction is top notch and really allows the cast to flourish. Black Death is the return to form of the Great British Darkness.

The UK Premiere of Black Death was hosted by FrightFest at The Coronet Cinema in Notting Hill. Director Chris Smith and cast members; Andy Nyman, Kimberley Nixon, Johnny Harris & Jamie Ballard were in attendance and did a short QA after the screening. Also spotted at the Premiere were Actress & Author Axelle Carolyn & Director Neil Marshall.
