On Saturday 17 January, Curzon Cinemas presents a special preview of Gus Van Sant’s MILK, the biopic of Harvey Milk. They are pleased to confirm that director Gus Van Sant and writer Dustin Lance Black will be joining us for a Q&A after the film.
MILK [15]
In 1977, Harvey Milk was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, thus becoming the first openly gay man to be voted into major public office in America. He went on to change the very nature of what it means to be a fighter for human rights before his untimely shooting in 1978 by a former city supervisor. Van Sant’s biopic charts the last eight years of Milk’s life – his decision to leave New York, his involvement with the famous Castro Cinema and his decision to become a spokesperson for change. Penn is on superlative form as Milk, giving a nuanced, understated performance that perfectly captures Milk’s humanity and humility.
